Meet the First SU2C Canada Dream Team

Posted on September 30, 2015, 12:00 AM

Thanks in part to donors like you; we are so thrilled to announce the Stand Up to Cancer Canada—Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Breast Cancer Dream Team! In 2015, breast cancer continues to be the most common cancer diagnosis in Canadian women according to Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. One in nine Canadian women is expected to develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

This SU2C Canada-CBCF Breast Cancer Dream Team, supported by CIBC, will be funded over a period of four years, and will conduct clinical trials in six provinces with the hopes to have promising results and new treatments to patients quickly. Our collaborator, OICR, is supporting clinical trials in the province of Ontario. The Dream Team will test three candidate drugs for their effectiveness in halting or slowing the processes by which cancer cells reproduce. “This new Dream Team is made up of some of Canada’s top cancer researchers, building on many years of outstanding research conducted in Canada” said Alan Bernstein, co-chair of the SU2C Canada Scientific Advisory Committee and president and CEO of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). “Importantly, the clinical trials will be carried out across the country. This is Canadian science at its best.”

Meet the SU2C Canada - CBCF Breast Cancer Dream Team in the video below to learn more about their promising new research to help create a world with more breast cancer survivors.

This Dream Team is a collaboration between Stand Up To Cancer Canada and Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, with support from CIBC, and the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research. The American Association for Cancer Research International – Canada is SU2C Canada’s scientific partner.
